Sheltie Love
Daisy & Devlin's Puppies

All the research that we did on the Internet told us that we should not breed our own Sheltie dogs, rather we should leave it up to the experts.  Of course all this good advice was written by (you guessed it) Sheltie breeders.  These are the same breeders that are working on keeping the breed small and charge $800+ per dog.

So this begged the question ... "What if you want a Sheltie as a work or outdoor dog with the agility and strength of a larger medium size dog?" and "what if you can not afford an $800 dog?"

So against the advice of the experts, we decided to breed our Devlin and Daisy.  Our goal was not to produce a "show quality" dog.  Nor was our goal to become breeders of Shetland Sheepdog.

Our goal was to breed two 35-lb dogs that are both highly intelligent with extremely loving personalities that are good around children and cats.  Daisy's extremely out-going personality is complimented by Devlin's reserved and quiet persona.  As an owner, it would now be hard to choose one dog over the other if we could only keep one, xo breeding them should produce a dog that many families would desire.

The following links tell our experience raising Daisy and Devlin's litter of puppies.

Check List

One of Daisy & Devlin's three male Sables at 38 days

Looks like the puppies are beginning to prefer food over mom

Daisy watches as her puppies eat Nutro Max Puppy food softened with powdered puppy formula and water.

In the background is a towel that the puppies "go" on.  They were trained to go on the towels because that is what we used to cover the floor of the whelping box.

When I moved them out of the whelping box,  I placed them in room with hard surface floors.

Next to the towel is a disposable training pad I want to transition the puppies into using.

The puppies are almost ready to go to new homes at 55 days.
